Our Chef:
Firewater Hawaii was founded by Ignacio Fleishour, a consummate adventurer, conservationist, educator, entrepreneur, chef, and cultural practitioner. Ignacio is proud of his Kiowa Apache and Cherokee heritage, serving as a custodian of rich oral traditions passed down by his Apache grandfather. Remarkably, he is one of only three people in the world who speak his unique dialect of Apache.
Ignacio holds a Master’s degree in Anthropology and Archaeology from the University of Arizona. His extensive studies and life experiences include living and learning from native elders and traditional medicine practitioners from diverse cultures, including Apache, Dineh, Mixtec, Aztec, Oaxacan, Queche, Nazca, and Hawaiian. His journey has taken him across Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oaxaca in Mexico, Nazca in Peru, and Hawaii.
In his practices, Ignacio shares the wisdom passed down from his ancestors and the elders he continues to collaborate with in the community. His life experiences, from hunting and living off the land to farming, ranching, and working on conservation projects worldwide, have led him to one profound truth:
“Connection to the land and the wisdom of our ancestors is essential for sustainable living and a harmonious future.”
At Firewater Hawaii, Ignacio blends this ancestral wisdom with a commitment to sustainability, crafting regenerative products from produce that might otherwise go to waste. His passion for conservation and cultural preservation shines through in every product, offering customers not just a taste of Hawaii, but a connection to the land and its stories.
